In August of 2019, my friend and I had a dream of starting our own clothing brand. We were eager to get started, but there was one thing I made clear – the brand must have the name “Legendary” in it. My friend agreed; we brainstormed various ideas. But deep down inside, I felt that none of the names we came up with had a true story or meaning behind them. So, we decided not to start the brand.
A few months passed by, and one day while visiting with my grandmother, I saw a sewing machine in her closet. I asked her if she knew how to sew clothes, and to my surprise, she said yes. She had made all my dad and uncle’s clothes when they were younger. I immediately asked her to teach me, and we spent hours making clothes together. My grandmother saw how passionate I was, and it was a bonding experience I will never forget.
As my passion for clothing design grew, I decided to enroll in fashion school on weekends in New Orleans. However, during one of our classes, my peers effortlessly created amazing pieces in 15 minutes. I was still struggling to make mine. I knew I wasn’t efficient as the other students. But something deep down inside told me that my story would set me apart.
A few more months passed by, and in 2020, I had to take time off from school and work due to health issues. Little did I know that in 2021, my family and I would lose our entire home and all our belongings due to Hurricane Ida. It was a dark time, and I found myself praying to God. Despite my circumstances, I still wanted to start my own clothing brand, but I needed a name.
One day, it came to me – Legendary Stars. It was the perfect name for my brand. It represented the idea of encouraging individuals through art to find their gifts in life, which ultimately leads to their purpose. And so, the journey began.
Legendary Stars is more than just a clothing brand. It is a symbol of hope and inspiration for anyone who wants to follow their dreams, no matter what life throws their way. The origins of Legendary Stars, a streetwear brand, begin with a sewing machine in my grandmother’s closet and a dream, fueled by faith, to create something meaningful.
